Recently, when the staff of the Xiangyangtai Resource Management Station of the Sidalong Nature Reserve of the Qilian Mountain Management Center checked the infrared camera images in the Tianlaochi area, they found precious activity footage of the brown bear, a national second-level protected wild animal.
In the video, a majestic brown bear walked slowly into the camera with its "eight-shaped" steps. Its eyes flickered in the dark, its nose sniffed the air, and its broad claws gently pushed away the fallen leaves, using its keen senses to capture the food that might be hidden below. However, in the end, it chose to move forward without finding anything. Its figure gradually shrank until it completely disappeared from the infrared camera's field of view.
The brown bear, also known as the grizzly bear, is a national second-level protected wild animal. It has a large and round head, a strong body, a raised shoulder and back, and a thick and dense coat with different colors, such as gold, brown, black, and brown-black. It mainly lives in cold temperate coniferous forests, mostly active during the day, walking slowly, without a fixed habitat, and usually acts alone. The diet is quite diverse, including various rhizomes, grass, grains and fruits, and animals including ants, insects, rodents, ungulates, fish and carrion. It has the habit of hibernation and gives birth to 1-4 pups during hibernation.
In recent years, with the intensification of the protection of the ecological environment and natural resources in Qilian Mountain, the protection of biodiversity has achieved remarkable results, and rare wild animals such as snow leopards and brown bears have also "appeared" in the spotlight.
