【Application of infrared cameras in China: from film to digital】 Let's learn about the development history of infrared cameras in China: Since the 1990s, infrared camera technology has gradually been widely used in wildlife surveys, research and monitoring. The application of infrared cameras in my country is basically synchronized with the international level. Along the way, China's infrared camera application has roughly gone through three different stages.
From the mid-1990s to 2004, this stage was the starting period of infrared camera application in my country. During this stage, the infrared cameras used were all film cameras. Limited by the capacity of the film, the number of photos that could be taken in the wild was very limited. At the same time, infrared camera equipment needed to be imported, the procurement process was cumbersome, and the price was expensive. These factors made the scope of use of infrared cameras quite limited.
From around 2004 to 2012, it was the promotion period of infrared camera application in my country. During this stage, digital infrared cameras appeared around 2005, and gradually matured with the development of technology, gradually replacing the early film version of infrared cameras and becoming the mainstream.
From 2012 to the present, it is the rapid development period of infrared camera application in my country. With the further maturity and price reduction of digital infrared camera equipment, the introduction of local and national infrared camera standard monitoring procedures, and the improvement of relevant data analysis methods and models, infrared camera technology has been widely used in wildlife surveys and monitoring in my country, and has now become one of the most widely used technologies in monitoring the diversity of large and medium-sized terrestrial mammals and birds. During this period, my country has established more than 10 regional or national infrared camera monitoring networks or monitoring platforms and achieved a large number of survey and research results.
